Down Your Street – An Introduction

Are you passionate about cleaning up your streets? Down District Council called upon community and resident groups to help clean-up their streets!

On Friday 14 February, Down District Council Chairman Councillor Maria McCarthy launched the Community Clean-up Fund and said, “Organising a clean-up in your community is a fun and rewarding experience. It is a great way to bring people from all over the community together with a common goal.  Community litter picks are an opportunity for local people to do what it takes to make their own environment better, have a bit of craic and get fit at the same time!”

Down Your Street is Down District Council’s scheme to assist community groups like Saintfield Development Association in looking after local areas. Saintfield Development Association has received ‘clean-up kits’ which contain everything needed to get everyone involved.

Groups can choose a street or area and help keep them clear from unwanted litter.  Groups who carry out clean-ups will be eligible to enter into a prize fund.  The prize fund will comprise of vouchers for selected hardware stores or nurseries within Down District Council area.

Groups taking part will be offered the waste removal service and will receive continued support as the fund will have provision for supplying groups with extra bags for rubbish.

If you would like to help Saintfield Development Association keep Saintfield clean by forming a litter picking group down your street then please contact us:
