10.30 – 13.00 on the Crossgar Road: 26 bags collected.
(13 from traffic lights to Old Grand Jury Road and 13 from Old Grand Jury Road to Gateway sign.)

15.30 – 17.30 on the Ballynahinch Road from the 30MPH sign to Drumaconnell Road: 9 bags of waste lifted.

SDA’s Green Saintfield Committee members have been out on the roads again:

Flower bed weeded at Saintfield High School – 3 bags
Footpath on Belfast Road cleaned to Comber Road – 7 bags of dirt
Traffic island at Ballgowan Road junction tidied up – 1 bag of dirt and 1 bag of litter

12 bags of litter, weeds & dirt collected on the night

Overall total to 31st July = 274.5 bags of waste collected!

Lisburn Road

Former Hocks ‘n’ Hooves building ground and Birch Lane area (0.75 acre) – 10 bags ragwort and 1 bag litter removed

Station Road – 5 bags ragwort and 1 bag of litter

Old Grand Jury Road – 1 bag of ragwort

Belfast Road – 1 bag ragwort and 1 bag of litter

Cut back the overgrown foliage which was poking out over the pavement at the left of the car park.
Scraped and swept the area at the top where recycling bins used to be.
Scraped and swept pavement on left-hand-side of park.
Scraped and cleared the entry in front of the unoccupied building behind the railings.
Scraped and swept pavement on approach road to car park.

Number of bags generated: 14 in total and a big container full of cuttings from the shrubs.Bags left at the bottom of car park – DDC contacted to arrange their removal.

Also the pavement in front of the Masonic Hall has been cleaned, so now it looks as good as the other side which was done earlier.

Members of Saintfield Development Association have been busy over the holiday period dislodging dirt at the sides of roads around the village in advance of the eagerly anticipated arrival of the Down District Council road sweeping lorry.

(Unfortunately the Down District Council road sweeping lorry didn’t make it to Saintfield today after all.  It was sent elsewhere for more important cleaning duties!)

Tuesday 8th July : Health Centre car park. Weeded and swept pavement and gutter by wall bordering the grass area. 4 bags of muck. See before ‘n after photos of this area.

Weds 9th July : Health Centre car park. Removed bramble in corner, cut away shrub in wall. Swept pavement in front of church hall and clinic. 11 bags of muck and 1 cubic metre garden waste bag full of weeds and cuttings.

Thurs 10th July: Health Centre car park area. Weeded flower bed in front of church. Part-weeded the shrubbery at very top of car park by church entrance. Scraped gutters all around top of car park and the approach roads to car park. Also did Ballynahinch Road gutters both sides ready for road sweeping lorry. 2 bags muck. Found bag of dog poo in shrubbery and left it on path with a note. Both were gone by next morning.

Also cleaned signs at car park, the “walk around Saintfield” information sign on Fair Green and the two “walk Saintfield” signs in Main Street and Downpatrick Street.

Fri 11th July: Lisburn Road beyond mini-roundabout: Scraped and swept pavement round corner by flower bed and along Lisburn road to junction with Fair View. Scraped gutters round islands on Lisburn and Ballynahinch Roads.
