Saintfield Festival

Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee decided in April 2011 that there should be an annual festival in Saintfield that should coincide with the anniversary of the Battle of Saintfield.  They started by organising a family fun run in the fields belonging to Rowallane Gardens, which took place on 11 June 2011, the Saturday closest to the dat of the Battle of Saintfield, 9 June 1798.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended.  Most ran (and a few walked) the 4 kilometres round the beautiful parkland.  All enjoyed the stunning views of the Mourne Mountains and the Isle of Man from the high point of the course.

The Committee also organised a piper, some rebels and Betsy Grey on horseback to greet a bus tour of the 1798 sites in County Down when they visited the Memorial Garden.

As these events and the other activities on the main street during the day were successful the Committee has decided to run a similar event in 2012, on 9th June, which will be 214 years to the day from the Battle of Saintfield.
