Saintfield Parish Church East Window

The East Window in Saintfield Parish Church was installed in 1929.  It consists of three lights and is in memory of Major and Mrs Nugent Blackwood-Price.  It was made by one of the leading stained glass artists of the Arts and Crafts movement, Karl Parsons and the correspondence between the Blackwood-Price family and Karl Parsons is still with the family.

The Saintfield window was probably influenced by a visit  Karl and his brother Ambrose made to Chartres in 1924 where they carried out a detailed study of medieval glass. Parsons was greatly impressed by the stained glass in Chartres Cathedral and wrote “So far as my knowledge goes, this world cannot show anything made by men so amazingly beautiful”.
