Members of Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee (STRC) and their friends, in cooperation with Tidy Northern Ireland, organised a Litter Pick in Saintfield on Sunday morning (7th October) when the roads were relatively free from traffic. All areas of Saintfield within the 30MPH speed zone were tackled.
One of the work parties which took part in the Saintfield Litter Pick (from L to R): Vivien Lovell, Jim McGuinness,
Patricia Magee (Tidy Northern Ireland), Bob Pollock, Paul McGeown, Brenda and Alan Maitland.
Tidy NI provided thick gloves, long-handled pickers and plastic bags in which to collect the litter. Twelve yellow bags of general waste were collected, together with 5 blue bags of waste suitable for recycling.
Just some of the bags containing litter which had been discarded on the streets and avenues of Saintfield!
As well as clearing litter off the streets, Downpatrick Street car park was tidied. Overhanging shrubs were also cut back.

The car park looks much tidier after John has cut back the intruding greenery. (In this photo the cuttings have yet to be cleared away!)
Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee organised the Litter Pick as a trial for next year’s BIG Spring Clean, when Saintfield will join with towns and villages all over the country as part of Tidy Northern Ireland’s big anti-litter initiative involving local communities.
