Saintfield Development Association’s Green Saintfield Committee raised £755 from voluntary donations for which they are most grateful. A Down District Council grant added £500 to the funds.
This allowed the purchase of large plant tubs and plant mangers to hang on railings. A plaque on each of the tubs and mangers on Main Street and Crossgar Road names the sponsor.
Saintfield traders have agreed to take responsibility for the watering of the plants with members of SDA’s Green Saintfield Committee taking over during holidays etc. A water barrel was kindly donated by Blain Bros Limited for the transportation of water.
SDA members have also adopted the plant troughs at the five gateway signs into Saintfield. Saintfield High School has offered to plant the wall facing the Belfast Road.
A litter clean up was organised in April and this was carried out by SDA members and volunteers. Indeed one of our members is regularly out at 6am sweeping the street, picking up litter and cleaning the gutters. Members of SDA’s Green Saintfield Committee removed eleven wheel barrow loads of dirt from Main Street, and 25 bags of litter from the village. Another street clean is due soon.
