Saintfield Development Association would like to thank all of the people who generously contributed to our collection for the Philippines Typhoon Appeal at the Christmas Fair. You donated £145, and this has been transferred to the Disasters Emergency Committee. This is their reply to you all:
“First I want to say thank you for your generous gift of £145.00 to the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal. Because of your generosity we can provide hope to some of the Millions whose lives have been turned upside down by the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan. Hope to people like 10-year-old Rafael, who lost his father when the Typhoon struck. His cries for help did not go un-noticed; it was you and many others like you that decided to answer his call. Now we can provide people like Rafael with food, shelter and urgent medical supplies. We simply could not do this without you, so once more on behalf of all those affected by this disaster, who will receive aid because of you, we say thank you.” |
Saintfield man Doug Stevenson suffers from an hereditary eye disease which caused his sight to deteriorate over recent years until it resulted in total blindness in March this year. However, this has not stopped the 24-year-old equestrian from overcoming his disability and achieving successes denied most able-bodied folk.

Saintfield Development Association’s annual Saintfield Christmas Fair on Friday 6th December attracted more visitors than ever before.
Fire performance group FirePoise opened and closed the evening. The Christmas Tree lights were switched on by Saintfield man Paddy Jackson, the Ulster and Ireland rugby player. Santa gave sweets to the children, and Batman made an appearance too! There was a Christmas Market, the BBC Big Bus was in town, and there were old favourites too, like the children’s roundabout and the miniature steam train. |

Saintfield Development Association has been making preparations since July for its annual Saintfield Christmas Fair. This year the Christmas Fair will be held on Friday 6th December on Main Street from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. The street will be closed to traffic during this period to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors.
There are many attractions for all age groups, made possible by generous donations from local traders and businesses, together with some support from Down District Council. The Saintfield Christmas Fair is an ideal way to begin the festive season, with something to please all the family. Full details of Saintfield Christmas Fair can be found HERE. |

This is a spectacular event not to be missed! Photos taken at today’s launch can be viewed HERE. |
Sandra Ward, who lives in Motherwell, Scotland, is researching her family history, which takes her back to two families around Saintfield, the Battons and Masseys.
She has found out a lot about the Battons but would like to make contact with any descendants of Alexander Massey who was a farmer in Tonaghmore in the 1850s or 60s. He had three sons, John, William and Robert and a daughter Eliza who married a Batton.
If you are a descendant of Alexander Massey or know someone who is, please respond to this post and we will put you in touch with Sandra.
