At the conclusion of the formal part of the AGM everyone was invited to go into the courtyard to enjoy the barbecue and refreshments provided by SDA members, and their spouses!
Join Our Weekly Thursday Evening Street Cleans!
It’s that time of the year again. Saintfield Development Association’s Green Committee is starting its weekly Street Cleans.
The first one, kicking off the season, is on Thursday 31st May at 7.00 pm, with Street Cleans every Thursday evening over the summer. We meet at the Fair Green car park, just off the mini roundabout at the top of Main Street.
Please consider joining us to help make Saintfield’s streets cleaner and nicer for everyone. You don’t have to commit to coming along every week – you can help out on the Thursday evenings that suit you.
It would be a great if you could bring a tool with you, such as a trowel, brush, shovel, bucket, hoe – any of these would be most helpful. And we have high viz waistcoats and gloves for you to borrow.
We’re a friendly bunch, and you will have a laugh and make new friends. See you some Thursday!

Newry, Mourne and Down Council Local Development Plan 2030
Publication of Local Development Plan: Preferred Options Paper
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has produced its Local Development Plan: Preferred Option Paper (POP), which can be downloaded HERE.
The POP is designed to stimulate debate and encourage feedback on key issues of strategic significance which are likely to influence the direction of the Council’s new LDP. The POP outlines the vision and strategic objectives of the Plan, along with a set of key issues and associated options for addressing them. The Council’s preferred options are indicated in the Paper along with a justification for each preferred option.
The consultation period for the POP will run for a period of 12 weeks from 1 June to 24 August 2018. Your comments are invited on the key issues and options considered in the POP. Comments must be planning related. Comments may be submitted by email to ldp@nmandd.org preferably using the POP questionnaire response form. Alternatively you can write to the Council with all comments in response to this consultation document clearly referenced ‘LDP: Preferred Options Paper’ and addressed to:

The closing date for receipt of comments is 5pm on 24th August 2018.
(Supporting documents, including the POP questionnaire response form will be available from the Council’s website at www.newrymournedown.org. Hard copies of the POP can also be viewed during normal office hours at the Council’s Planning offices at Monaghan Row, Newry and the Downshire Civic Centre, Downpatrick.)
There will be a number of public drop-in sessions across the district, during the consultation period, where interested parties can call in to discuss the POP with planning officers.

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is a guide to community engagement in the planning process. The SCI outlines how the Council will engage with its citizens and stakeholders in exercising its planning functions; it sets out the procedures for involving the community in the production of the LDP, in the consideration of planning applications, in planning enforcement, and in the Council’s other planning functions.

SURVEY: Play Area At Lislane Drive, Saintfield
In 2016/17 Newry, Mourne and Down District Council carried out a review of the play value of all its fixed play areas. Following this review, the Play Strategy recommended that future play provision in the area currently served by Lislane Drive, Saintfield should be upgraded to a higher play value site.
In line with the Council’s commitment to consultation PlayBoard NI is conducting a survey to assess local views on the site and to identify preferred options for enhancing play provision within the overall area.
Please find below the links for two surveys regarding the local Play Space at Lislane Drive, Saintfield. The first survey link is aimed towards parents and carers, the second appropriate for children and young people.
The views and opinions of local children, young people and communities are highly important to PlayBoard NI, providing an opportunity to actively participate in the process of improving play experiences.

Saintfield Development Association’s AGM – Monday 4th June
Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Saintfield Development Association will be held on Monday 4th June at 7.30 pm in the Rowallane Community Hub, 35 Main Street, Saintfield.
The AGM gives residents an opportunity to hear what their development association has achieved over the past year as well as a chance to put their views forward.
Following the meeting, a barbecue will be held in the courtyard for the attendees to meet the incoming committee members.
Saintfield Cycle Ride – Sunday 20th May
The Saintfield Development Association is staging a “Saintfield to Sketrick” cycle ride on Sunday 20th May.
The route is over 34 miles through the scenic County Down countryside, starting and finishing in Saintfield. This ride is a social outing, not a race and will appeal to all categories of cyclist, from the novice to the club enthusiast.
The route will be fully signposted and there will be marshals at strategic points around the course. A sweeper car will follow the field to attend to any riders in difficulty.
The entry fee is £10 online or £15 on the day, which includes delicious home-made tray bakes and refreshments at Sketrick Island, as well as light refreshments at the finish at the Rowallane Inn, Saintfield. All proceeds will go towards SDA community projects.
Registration will be held on the day at the Downpatrick Street car park in Saintfield, behind Danske Bank, from 8.30am for a 9.30am start, or can be done online at:
