Thank you for contacting us! A quick Google revealed these websites, two among many. A townland just outside Saintfield is Leggygowan, but like Moffett/Maffett etc is has may spellings, such as Legagowan, Legagowen etc! Look at townlands.ie to see a map showing its location. (The website seems to be having a problem right now!)
Thank you for getting in contact.
Maffett, as you probably will know, is a variant of Moffat/Moffett. As spellings were inconsistent in centuries gone by they cannot be relied upon as accurate.
I am descended from Moffat’s from the townland of Barnamaghery, which lies three miles from Saintfield. David Moffett, a gentleman from the US, has done extensive research of a Moffett family from Leggygowan – please see the link http://www.discoversaintfield.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/SN20_web.pdf .
If I can help you please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many Thanks,
Peter
My great Grandfather James Moffett worked on a farm in Barnamaghery. He married in 1851 and brought his family up at Glasswater. His oldest son was called William who is my Grandfather. My fathers Uncle ran the first bus service from Downpatrick to Belfast in 1920.My family have a connection to Saintfield and a David Moffat lived there beside Rowallane.
