On Monday 24th March the Liberty Players performed their play about the United Irishmen, “Liberty or Death”, to an audience of parents and invited guests in Saintfield high School.  The Liberty Players are Year 12 pupils from the performing arts class. The performance formed part of the pupils’ preparation for their GCSE examination the following day.

Family history here in Canada and US has recorded that a Mc Kinstry a leader
of the United Men was killed there. No one knows his first name or where
he came from ie. …..Parish or Town………..can anyone help.

The book you need to start with is that of Betsy Gray or Hearts of Down, a tale of ninety eight, which is online. It mentions the name McKinstry. Thanks for your compliment regarding the Saintfield High pupils, they are indeed a fine group of young people and many descended from the ’98 period.

    Good luck,
    Helen Birt (Saintfield High School)
