From Monday 22nd April 2024, there is a new car parking permit and charging system at the four main parks in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMD) area, namely Slieve Gullion Forest Park, Kilbroney Park, Castlewellan Forest Park and Delamont Country Park.
The Council is offering FREE entry into one of these parks with a ‘single-park permit’ being made available to each registered household address within the NMD area.
The start date of the scheme at the four main parks has been put back until Monday 22nd April 2024 to allow more time for residents to collect parking permits. There are a range of permit options for both residents and non-residents.
Permits are available from Monday 4th March 2024 (9am – 5pm) at the car park offices of all four parks. Residents must either produce a valid driving licence OR photographic ID and a document that shows their current address.
From 22nd April 2024 if you do not have a relevant permit, charges will apply.
The cost of parking charges and permits will vary depending on whether or not the visitor is a district resident.
There is no charge to enter a park on foot or on bicycle, with access arrangements and routes unchanged.
Transition Period (Monday 4 March – Monday 22 April 2024)
The start date of the scheme at the four main parks has been put back to Monday 22nd April 2024 to allow more time to collect parking permits.
Parking charges are currently in place at Castlewellan Forest Park (7 days) and Delamont Country Park (weekends only). This arrangement will continue between Monday 4th March and Monday 22nd April 2024. However the new season permits will become valid with immediate effect.
District Resident Charges
Each registered household address within the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area will be entitled to one ‘single-park permit’, granting free entry into one park of their choice, up to 31st March 2025. Permits can be collected at the car park office of their chosen park. Please present your valid driving licence or photographic ID accompanied by a valid utility bill (dated within the last three months). Vehicle entry to the three remaining parks will incur a charge. Alternatively, residents can buy an All-Park Permit for all four parks as outlined in the tables below.
