Of all the people born in Saintfield Francis Hutcheson has probably had most impact on the world we live in today. His philosophical writings contributed to the 18th century enlightenment in Scotland, England, then the newly formed United States of America and France, as well as Ireland.
He is commemorated in Saintfield by a blue plaque on the gable of the Guildhall (visible from the finger post in the Square on the Main Street) and by an information panel in the Memorial Garden.
A biography of Francis Hutcheson by Philip Orr had been added to this site.
