Books by Francis Hutcheson

Many books by Francis Hutcheson have been recently reprinted.  Saintfield Heritage Society has bought twelve of these for donation to the Linenhall Library.  To see the list click here.

  1. [Francis Hutchinson’s] philosophy was fundamental in the economic, social and political development of these countries, and thus, the modern world. A reminder to me that I tend to look on The Enlightenment as a scientific revolution when there was so much more to it. Hutchinson and others initiated the social conditions which made possible the expansion of scientific thought occurring in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Unfortunately, as far as science is concerned, we seem now to be on the verge of the counter-enlightenment with proper scientific method being scorned.
