It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Alan McDonald at Temple Golf Course on Saturday, aged 48.  Alan, originally from Belfast, spent most of his professional football career with Queens Park Rangers, and was capped 52 times for Northern Ireland. He had latterly been the manager of Glentoran. Alan settled in Saintfield when he returned from England and was a great friend of many of us.  We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Alan’s wife Tonya, and to the family circle.

“Last time I stayed in Saintfield I was about 16 and stayed with my relatives – Margaret & Jack Finlay who lived in a farm nearby.  They had a daughter, Jacqueline, about 3 at the time = 1954 approx.  Margaret was the daughter of Jessie, my step grandfather’s sister whose maiden name was Milligan.  Jessie also had sons – John, James & Thomas and a daughter Cynthia (called Cinders).  All a bit vague but maybe you can help me find them?  I always mean to return and will one day, especially if I can visit. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.  Maureen Bunn”

A new project has been announced by Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee.  They are seeking volunteers to help restore the Village Well to its former glory.  Details of the project can be found here.

The Mini Twelfth will be held in Saintfield on Friday 6th July with the outward parade starting at 7pm. The return parade will begin at 9.30pm.  The Bawn Silver Band will be taking part in the parade.

Temple and District Vintage and Classic Club are having a Vintage and Classic Motor Cycle Road Run on Thursday 28th June, at 7.45pm..

The route is the old “Temple 100” road race circuit, Saintfield.

See a cavalcade of vintage tractors on the roads round Saintfield before they line up for inspection on Main Street.  If David Brown, Massey Ferguson and Fordson are your cup of tea then Saintfield is the place to be on 21st June!
