Art on the Railings – 9th June

As part of the Fun Run & Family Day on Saturday 9th June
Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee
is bringing Art on the Railings to Saintfield!

Art on the Railings is an open air art exhibition, displaying Art & Crafts along the railings of Saintfield’s Main Street. Art on the Railings is a free event suitable for all the family.
You could watch artists demonstrating their skills or have-a-go and try your hand at painting!
Alternatively you could treat yourself to some unique work by local artists.
Starts at 10am on Saturday 9th June.

See Old Photographs of Saintfield – 2nd June


The Saintfield horse fair in Comber Street.

Have you ever wondered what Saintfield used to look like?  Now you have the opportunity to see some wonderful old photographs of Saintfield which have been selected from the archives of Down County Museum.

Saintfield Heritage Society will be showing the photographs to the public at the Saintfield Parish Jubilee Fayre. At his event  the Society will have prints of old Saintfield on display, and a PowerPoint presentation showing Then And Now views of some of the most familiar scenes of Saintfield. Copies of the eight volumes of Saintfield Heritage, the Society’s excellent series of books on Saintfield will also be on sale.

The Jubilee Fayre, which is for all the family, will take place in the hall to the rear of the Parish Church, Main Street, on Saturday 2nd June 2012.  The event, which will feature many societies and clubs from Saintfield, will run from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

If you have any old photographs of Saintfield, then please bring them along and let us have a look at them. You might even let us add them to the DiscoverSaintfield website, or publish them in the next volume of Saintfield Heritage! Alternatively, you could email your photographs to:

Olympic Torch Visits Saintfield! – 7th June


The Olympic Torch being lit at the Temple of Hera in Olympia, Greece.

The Olympic Torch will be passing through Saintfield on Thursday 7th June. It will arrive from Crossgar at 08:41, and go through the town before heading off towards Ballynahinch. You can view the route map.

Three torchbearers will carry the Olympic Torch through Saintfield. You can read their nomination stories:

Let’s see a big crowd all along the route to welcome the Olympic Torch
and provide encouragement for the three Torchbearers.

New Village Plan for Saintfield

SAINTFIELD TOWN REGENERATION COMMITTEE

are preparing a New Village Plan for Saintfield
(with the financial support of DDC and DRAP)

URS are the consultants appointed to prepare the plan and they are inviting all community groups, sports clubs, schools, churches, traders and residents to contribute their views and opinions.

The DRAFT VILLAGE PLAN is available to see in the shop below the Post Office at 1b Main Street from:

Thursday 10 May – Thursday 17 May inclusive, from 9:00am to 5:00pm AND
on Tuesday evening 15 May, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Ways to express your views:

Please come along to the shop and give your views on a short questionnaire OR
Speak to someone from URS or the Saintfield Town Committee, who will be in attendance OR
Download the Questionnaire and a copy of the Draft Village Plan:

AGM of the Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee

The Annual General Meeting of the Saintfield Town Regeneration Committee will take place in the Saintfield Cricket Club pavilion at 7.30pm on Monday 14th May 2012.

The Guest Speaker will be Morris Crawford of the Killyleagh Development Association.
